Process Overview  Case Explorer

Screenshot of PMTk – the Process Mining Toolkit

Screenshot shows the Case Explorer, listing individual cases sorted by start time, with one case selected. Each row displays a case's start time, end time, cycle time, and activity sequence as color-coded chevrons. The Details for Case panel below the table shows the selected case's Case Attributes and Event Attributes tables.

The Case Explorer presents a paginated, case-level view of the entire event log. Each row represents one individual case, displaying its start time, end time, cycle time, and variant sequence as a series of color-coded activity chevrons. Unlike the Variant Explorer, which groups cases by their shared sequence, the Case Explorer treats every case individually, making it the primary view for inspecting specific cases and their attributes in detail.

Navigation between pages is handled via the page controls at the bottom of the table, which also indicate the total number of cases and the currently visible range. Click in the toolbar to open a search field for quickly locating a specific Case ID.

Inspect Attributes

Clicking anywhere on a case row (other than its checkbox) selects it as the active case, highlighting the row and opening a Details for Case panel below the table with two tables:

  • Case Attributes: every case-level attribute of the selected case, listed as Attribute / Value rows.
  • Event Attributes: every event-level attribute (e.g., Start Timestamp, Timestamp, Wait Time, Work Time, Wait + Work Time, Resource, and any custom attributes in the log) as rows, with one column per event in the case. Each column is headed by a color-coded chevron matching the corresponding activity in the case's variant sequence.

Case Explorer Filtering

OptionEffect
Positive: Keep Selected CasesRetains only cases whose case ID matches one of the selected cases, removing all others from the event log.
Negative: Remove Selected CasesRemoves all cases whose case ID matches one of the selected cases, retaining the rest.

Clicking Apply in the dialog applies a Text Attributes Filter globally across all dashboards. You can clear or adjust the filter at any time through the filter controls in the top bar.
