Data Filtering  Time Group

Screenshot of PMTk – the Process Mining Toolkit

Screenshot shows the Time Group Filter dialog with the Event to keep option set to First event/activity (log position). Groups of events sharing the same timestamp within a case will be reduced to the first event as it appears in the log.

The Time Group Filter handles events within a case that share the exact same timestamp. When multiple events occur simultaneously, their ordering within the log is ambiguous. This filter allows you to resolve such groups by reducing them to a single representative entry.

Event to keep

  • First event/activity (log position): Retains the first event in the group based on its position in the log.
  • Last event/activity (log position): Retains the last event in the group based on its position in the log.
  • Concatenation of activities: Merges all events in the group into a single event whose activity name is a concatenation of all activity names in the group.

On applying the filter, a corresponding entry is appended to the Filter Chain. Existing filters can be reviewed, reordered, and removed in the Filter Chain.
