Getting Started  Basics of PMTk

Screenshot of PMTk – the Process Mining Toolkit

Screenshot shows the Conformance Checking Summary aligned against a previously created BPMN model. Multiple areas are marked to explain the basic layout of PMTk.

This page provides a quick orientation to the main interface elements of PMTk. The screenshot below uses numbered annotations to highlight the key areas described in this section.

1. User Menu

Clicking the user icon in the top-right corner of the screen opens the user menu, which provides access to account and application settings including:

  • Profile: View account information.
  • User Management: Manage users and permissions.
  • View As: Deactivate Feature Management by switching to admin view.
  • Feature Management: Adjust PMTk display preferences and component-specific settings.
  • Appearance: Configure how durations, timestamps, and numbers are displayed.
  • Cache Settings: Hard- or soft-reset the cache of the current PMTk session.
  • Language: Change the interface language.
  • Logout: Sign out of the current session.

2. Toolbar

Most dashboards include a toolbar in the top-right area of their panel, providing quick access to actions relevant to that specific view (e.g. applying filters, toggling the configuration panel, downloading data, expanding the view to full screen). The available buttons vary per component and are described in detail on each component's documentation page.

3. Event Log & Model Control Panel

At the very top of the screen, the control panel provides a persistent overview of the currently loaded artefacts and quick access to key actions:

  • Event Log control panel(always visible when a log is loaded): Displays a summary of the active event log including the project name, log name, variant count, case count, and event count. Clicking on the log or project name allows you to quickly switch to a different artefact. Additional actions are described in the Handling Data section.
  • Model control panel(visible when in a Conformance Checking dashboard): Displays the currently selected BPMN model alongside alignment progress. Clicking the model name allows you to switch to a different model.

The control panel can be hidden by clicking ∨ on the left side of the panel, giving more screen space to the active component.

The navigation panel on the left side of the screen allows you to switch between all available dashboards, organized into sections Process Overview, Performance Analysis, Visual Analytics, Data Exploration, Process Discovery, and Conformance Checking.

Clicking the PMTk logo at the top of the navigation panel serves as a shortcut to the Workspace, from which you can manage projects and artefacts.

5. About PMTk

Clicking About PMTk at the bottom of the navigation panel opens an information panel that displayes various information like the current PMTk version, the latest version number, and links to our website or support email.
